About Dr. Englert..

 

Carol Sue Englert teaches and conducts research in special education, with a focus on the education of students with mild disabilities. Her research interests include the study of literacy practices and discourse communities in special education and inclusion classrooms, and the sociolinguistic analyses of discourse in classrooms. Her more recent work, the Literacy Environments for Accelerated Progress (LEAP) Project, involves a collaborative research project with special education teachers to design and implement a literacy curriculum that integrates the language processes related to speaking, reading, and writing. She is also involved in a collaborative research project with Dr. Yong Zhao to develop and implement a web-based software that is used in elementary classrooms to enhance the literacy environments for all students, but particularly for students with mild disabilities.

 

Professor Carol Sue Englert is also the coordinator of CIERA Program II. She is a professor of Education at Michigan State University where she holds appointments in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Special Education. She received her Ph.D in Education at the Indiana University in 1981. She was the recipient of the Teacher Scholar Award, A university-wide award presented to faculty for exemplary research and teaching, Michigan State University, February, 1987 and the President's Award, Local chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children, April, 1993.

In her current work, Englert conducts research on early literacy and computer technology based instruction and and its implications at the local state and national levels. She is also author of many books and articles.
