Chongqing resides in the southwest of China
and it is a city of long history. See here
for an complete introduction of the history and present
condition of Chongqing.
Chongqing is wedged between 2 rivers, the
Chang Jiang and the Jialing Jiang, which meet at a point
to the east of the city. It contains mainly hills in the
northwest and central parts, while the Dabashan and Wulingshan
Mountains are located in the southeast. It is often called
the "Mountain City" and the "River City"
for its wonderful scenery, and thus has a lot of sites
of interest.
As a city with long history, Chongqing
is also noted for its unique culture.
Chongqing's number one specialty is huoguo,
which means (hot or fire pot). The wait staff will bring
out a platter of raw meat and uncooked vegetables to be
cooked in a fondue-like fashion in the pot of hot and spicy
oil placed in the middle of the table. The night markets
at Chongqing also have been reported to be very tasty. Chongqing
is also great for Sichuan cuisine, like Zhang tea cooked
duck, steamed carp, marinated beef, and bean curd. While
the best restaurant in town is reported by Lonely Planet
to be Lao Sichuan Fandian, they also recommend the Zuorong
lu which has many large sit-down restaurants.
