Focus Group Activities

To ensure the quality of the E-Language Learning System (ELLS), user feedback at the early stages of development is critical. Thus, studies will be conducted from time to time to collect background information and reactions to the initial designs from a diverse group of potential users in China and the United States as soon as there is sufficient development across each phase to merit review and feedback.

Goals
The purpose of focus group research is to obtain information from students and teachers who may be end users of the fully-developed ELLS system so as to guide the development of ELLS system. Specifically, the goals of ongoing focus group research are to collect scientific information about the issues that are critical to decision-making at the early developmental stages.

Current Focus Group activities are to collect information about Middle school students’:

  1. Activity interest related to language learning and gaming;
  2. Reactions to the overall proposed ELLS approach and strategies;
  3. Reactions to the specific designs and activities proposed by the design and development team;
  4. Suggestions for alternative approaches, strategies, designs, and activities (e.g., other storylines, other games);
