Work Experience

  • Futures Education & Training Specialist, U.S. Army HQ Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, VA (Jan 89 - present).  Managed the Futures Training Division’s Technologies Branch.  Developed and distributed norms for designing distance learning (DL) courseware to all TRADOC schools involved in The Army DL Program.  Made numerous presentations on DL design at national professional conferences.  Received Best Paper Award for Soldiers as Distance Learners at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference 2000.  Invited to present keynote address on DL Design at Defence Training 2002 in Brussels, Belgium.  Recommended members from academia and industry for nomination to the Secretary of the Army’s DL Subcommittee.  Managed DL studies to determine instructional effectiveness, cost effectiveness, and technology transfer issues for electronic media. 
  • Personnel Psychologist, U.S. Army HQ Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, VA (May 85 – Dec 88).  Evaluated instructional programs and research designs.  Institutionalized successful technologies.  Produced comprehensive guide to automating learning facilities and presented at national conference.  Managed front-end analyses to identify job performance problems and causes, and recommended instructional solutions for performance deficiencies.
  • Quality Circle (QC) Coordinator.  QC Program Office, White Sands Missile Range, NM.  (Aug 83 – Sep 84).  Implemented a participative management program to improve quality, productivity, morale, safety, and cost effectiveness of work procedures.  Developed and conducted QC instruction.  Guided workers in problem solving/improvement planning.
  • Instructional Designer, Office of Instructional Development, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY (Apr 78 – Nov 79).  Conducted program evaluations and reported results to administrators.  Developed curricula and educational materials.  Designed, conducted, and evaluated faculty development programs.  Taught Management of Learning, a graduate course in instructional design.  Piloted the General Education Testing Program using the Educational Testing Service’s multiple media test to assess quality of general education institute-wide.  Managed the Diagnostic Observation System to provide faculty with student feedback on teaching.
  • Social Studies Instructor, Memorial Junior High School, Lansing, IL (Oct 70 – Jun 75).  Developed curriculum and teaching materials.  Developed and implemented the Combined Language Arts and Social Studies Program, integrating the teaching of English with social studies.  Taught social studies and revised instructional strategies and materials based on student performance and feedback.
